Videos
You can’t get to the top without starting from the bottom. That’s a new saying of mine I would like us to remember. However, you have to do the right things to get to the top. Study and be inspired from the following videos. (Background music caution)
video 1 – Here’s Kyrie Irving making the NBA highlight reel for 2013
video 2 – But here’s Kyrie working hard in the offseason with no NBA cameras around
video 3 – Here’s Lebron James telling kids at his camp to work hard. (The music here almost drowns out his words, but try to turn it down as much as you can and catch the very strong message he gives his campers. “Never play to the level of (the) competition.”)
video 4 – But here Lebron is practicing and working hard himself with no campers around
Stats
A new stat page is coming where you can see the team and player stats kept by the coach…inshaa Allah.
January 2, 2014 – 29 Safar 1435
Ok, here’s a website that will explain some of the NBA’s most misunderstood rules. Look for the defensive three seconds rule.
January 13, 2014 – 12 Rabi Awwal 1435
Great workout today guys…everyone!
Our Plays (in detail):
1) Low right against zone – forward on the right side of rim picks for center in middle
2) Low left against zone – forward on the left side of rim picks for center in middle
3) Low right against man – low post player on the right side of the rim cuts across paint and picks for left low post player
4) Low left against man – low post player on the left side of the rim cuts across paint and picks for right low post player
5) High right – screen from right side of play caller at the top of key
6) High left – screen from left side of play caller at the top of the key
7) Play C – Pass, screen and curl
REMEMBER: We also put man on man against a 2-3 zone, and we run a “3 out 2 in” setup against man to man defenses…”PRACTICE AND STUDY”
January 22, 2014 – 21 Rabi Awwal 1435
Two new plays we’ve added to the list is:
8) Right both – a high and low screen from right side
9) Left both – a high and low screen from left side
Here is the Spurs Playbook video. Notice how they set each one up (and excuse low background music).
February 3, 2014 – 4 Rabi Thani 1435
In defeat there are lessons to be learned. Hold your heads up team. We constantly get better, improving with each game. We learn things that we weren’t aware of, thus becoming better with each match.
We learned so far:
*The importance of running set plays (from game 1)
*What is a 2-3 zone? How to set up and attack one (from game 2)
*How to tighten up our zone on defense, and how to adapt a set play to a man to man or zone defense? (from game 3)
And from today’s game we will work on:
*How to break a full court press
*The left hand dribble
Check out this video until we meet, from 0:58 – 1:08:
February 9, 2014 – 8 Rabi Thani, 1435
Great practice Saturday guys! I love the energy from everyone 4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th starters & 7th/8th gr team2. Subhaan Allah, each group has its own identity and that’s awesome. Here are the videos I talked about. Number 1, perfecting the 2-3 zone and number 2, “head up, come to ball and quick smart pass to open man” to break the press. Study them!
The 2-3 Syracuse Zone Defense video. [note: turn down volume, music in background]
The San Antonio press break. [Notice how their passing is just like the one second to shoot rule we have.]
